SALT vs SUGAR... Which is better for your skincare routine?

When a woman goes shopping for skincare products it can be extremely overwhelming, especially when looking for scrubs to exfoliate dead skin and leave us feeling smooth and radiant!

However, since the start of Suds Me Up Buttercup, I have taken a very bold stand in not offering "sugar" products to my clients. Of course there are many reasons for this and I would love to expand on them so YOU can make an informed decision when it comes to buying products to put on your skin that you feel safe about.

When it comes to sugar we all know that putting it in our mouth is not a wise choice. It harms our cells, breaks down our immune system, and makes us sick. So don't you agree that if it affects our body on a cellular level, it would do the same if it is seeping into our pores through bath and body products as well? There are a lot of claims out there that sugar pulls moisture into the skin and helps with the aging process, yet I disagree. Here is what I have found about this indredient found in many products.

RUN  FAR  AWAY  FROM  SUGAR

* Is rarely used in "natural" skincare products
* Excess use of Sugar products can damage the skin's collagen increasing the aging process
(aka- dull skin and wrinkles)
* Increases testosterone resulting in larger pores
* Also promotes oily skin
* And creates dark circles under our eyes

YIKES!!! Who would of thought all of that could come from putting sugar on our hair, face, and skin (PS- it can also cause yeast infection when used around our "womanly area"). But don't worry, there are still plenty of options available to hydrate your entire body without including sugar in your skincare routine. Now let's look at all the benefits of using salt instead!

OPTION #1:  DEAD  SEA  SALT

HEALTH BENEFITS:
* Improves blood circulation
* Eliminates toxins and balances the skin's ph levels
* Treats acne, eczema, and psoriasis by gently exfoliating dead skin cells
* Rehydrates our skin by restoring the depleted mineral of magnesium
* Reduces the appearance of skin wrinkling
* Treats fungal infections such as athletes foot

Can you use dead sea salt as a face scrub?

The simple answer is no; however, we can use them as a facial wash instead!

To do so simply Dissolve a handful of Dead Sea Salt into a basin of tepid water, and rub the salt softly against the skin of your face to remove dirt, oils and dead skin to leave it feeling soft and rejuvenated.

OPTION #2:  EPSON  SALT

While Dead Sea salts are made up of salt (sodium chloride) and more than 20 minerals, Epsom salts contain no salt at all. Instead, Epsom salts form when high levels of magnesium and sulphate combine in water. They are known as 'salts' simply because they resemble salt crystals and have similar properties.

HEALTH BENEFITS:
* Pulls toxins out of muscles promoting healing and relaxation
* Relaxes stiff joints
* Eases headaches
* BONUS- You can even add it to your shampoo to give volume to oily hair

NOTE: For anyone battling diabetes, it is not recommended that you use any type of foot soak. Because of poor circulation and nerve damage, doing so may worsen your condition and cause further health problems.

OPTIONS #3:  PINK  HIMALAYAN  SALT

HEALTH BENEFITS:
* Pulls toxins our of your skin and tissues (wonderful when combined with epson salt)
* reduces skin inflammation
* Regulates water content in and outside of cells (aka- healthy looking skin/pores)
* Lowers blood pressure
* Softening of calloused heels
