Teddy bears, school supplies, clothes, and tons of treats awaiting to be opened up by children all around the world. However, the best gift one could ever receive is the good news of Jesus Christ! This is the mission of Operation Christmas Child- sharing the love of Jesus. What a blessing it is to be able to participate in something so huge that God is doing!
Each year Suds Me Up Buttercup wants to give back to the local community and around the world by choosing one charity to support. This year God laid it upon my heart to choose Operation Christmas Child. My first encounter with this organization was while attending a local church in my hometown during my senior year of high school. I remember watching a video of children opening up the shoe boxes and being filled with sadness at how little others have in other parts of the world but at the same time greatly touched by their thankfulness in such a small gesture that to them, meant the world! I later learned that many of the children receiving the boxes will only do so once in their lifetime and may never again have Christmas presents or gifts to open throughout their childhood... that alone told me that it is time to take the focus off of me and give to others who need it more!
Operation Christmas Child begins with YOU! When God speaks to your heart about the need for love that others are missing in their life, you know the only answer to solve that problem is JESUS!
To begin your journey all you have to do is visit the official website for Operation Christmas Child at https://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/ From there you can order shoe boxes to fill, choose the age range and gender of the child/children you want to sponsor this year, and get busy stuffing as much as you can!
This year Suds Me Up Buttercup is asking for YOUR help too in reaching my goal of filling up at least one shoe box for each age range/gender. At each event I will reserve space inside my booth where you can drop off toys, clothes, and any other item allowed to be put into these boxes. I want to far exceed my goal of filling just 6 boxes- let God blow our minds in giving this Christmas season and bless as many children as we can together!
Shows where you can drop-off items will be:
* Oct 24-27: Shelby NC Holiday Gift Galleria
* Nov 2: Asheville NC TC Roberson High School Holiday Market
* Nov 9: Charlotte NC Gate Church Deck the Walls Market
See highlights of the Shoe Box journey below!
* STEP ONE: SHOEBOX DROP-OFF
The National Collection Week will take place November 18-25.
Suds Me Up Buttercup will be dropping off all shoe boxes filled with your help on Monday, November 18 and Tuesday, November 19 at Patterson Grove Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, NC. For additional locations on where you can drop off your own shoe boxes, the website has a map of all locations, dates, and times available for your area!
* STEP TWO: PROCESSING CENTER
Volunteer your time at one of the processing centers (Charlotte NC or Boone NC) to help fill shoe boxes with other brothers and sisters in Christ! This is a wonderful time to pray over each shoe box and see what truly goes on at Samaritan's Purse. You are sure to be blessed :)
Inquire on how you can volunteer at your local drop-off location or contacting Samaritan's Purse directly through their website.
* STEP THREE: DELIVERY
If you have never seen a child accept Jesus and pray to their heavenly Father then you are missing out on a huge blessing. Thankfully with the advancement of modern technology you can now witness firsthand what God is doing all around the world. Check out the highlight videos and images below! See even more on the website's photo galleries!
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
PROVERBS 22:6 KJV
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."
PSALM 139:13-16 KJV
"At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea."
MATTHEW 18:1-6 KJV
